October 2018
- Members introduced their guests.
- Jonathan Shubert, a 31 years old science teacher circumnavigated the globe by bicycle between May 2013 and May 2014. Three weeks after returning to the UK he won the RTTC national 24 hour TT championship. Earlier this year he set the end to end, cycling record across Oman, a country which is a similar in length to the UK, lowering the existing mark from six days to sub two for a new world record. He spoke about the most challenging chapter of his round the world journey, crossing the Gobi desert in the depths of winter 2013/2014. A fascinating insight into his personal challenges and the cultural issues he experienced in this remote region of China was greatly appreciated by all present. Peter Ruffhead gave the vote of thanks reflecting the appreciation of all present.
- Next meeting 14th November.
